30/30 Challenge: Day 10

women's devotional bible #3030challenge

In contrast to last night’s study on humility this evening I went over confidence. Interestingly enough, I didn’t intend on studying confidence.

I wasn’t sure what to study, having nailed my biggies: anger, forgiveness, and patience. So I prayed for God to direct me and show me what I need to brush up on and confidence seemed to stick out.

I always believed myself a confident woman. But after reading what the Bible had to say on the subject, I realized I wasn’t really confident. Just some unbalanced combination of narcissistic and proud.

Based on what I read, this is what I gathered…

  1. Faith + Pride = Arrogance
  2. Doubt + Humility = Anxiety
  3. Faith + Humility = Confidence

Having faith without humility leads to arrogance. On the other hand, humility without faith is what causes anxiety and worry. Having faith AND humility is what leads to a genuine confidence and not confidence’s ugly third cousin, pride.

  • Being confident of this, that he how began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:6)
  • I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:13)
  • For the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared. (Proverbs 3:26)

I realize that I can be confident in all things by accepting what I’m not, but knowing what God is and trusting that all is going as He planned. And His plans are good.

Wow, that was beautifully said! I’m going to have to pin that one up on my wall. lol That pretty much sums up the heart and life of a Christian!

  2. Thank you! God has been speaking to my heart. It’s amazing what He does when we’re willing to step back and say, “Okay, it’s your go, Lord. I’m on pause.”

So true! You have unlocked a key that many Christians miss. Our confidence needs to be in Christ, and Him alone. That is only done the way you say – Faith + Humility. Keep up the good study – it/s fun to watch you grow through your words.

Thoughtful… You observed really well, especially the effort you put to understand such words which has almost lost its meaning meaning in the present apart from being packed with diplomacy, arrogance.
Thanks for sharing this…. A much needed one!!
