30/30 Challenge: Day 28

women's devotional bible #3030challenge

What’s the quickest way to feel bad about your lot? Easy, just compare yourself to someone else. Funny really… I’d feel so great about something until I compared myself to another person.

Most times I don’t realize I’m doing it until my mood changes.

When I catch my thoughts sneaking off to Compare Myself to Others City, I have to make a conscious effort to pull them over and send them back to their hometown of Mind My Own Business. Or they can visit their cousins in the great state of Be Grateful for What You Got.

Make it your ambition to lead a quiet life: You should mind your own business and work with your hands, just as we told you. (1 Thessalonians 4:11)

I’m happiest when doing something productive and not worried about the world around me. Whether it’s reading, blogging, crafts, or just spending time with my little Minion.

  • Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else. (Galatians 6:4)
  • We do not dare to classify or compare ourselves with some who commend themselves. When they measure themselves by themselves and compare themselves with themselves, they are not wise. (2 Corinthians 10:12)

Theodore Roosevelt was right, comparison is the thief of joy.

Followed closely by a mirror in fluorescent light on a no makeup day.

That’s one of my favorite and most effective verses to say out loud to stop myself comparison with others.
those who compare themselves amongst each other are not wise

The desire may go for awhile, then return… I keep repeating as necessary.

  2. Haha! They also have a Museum of Tears and a great little bistro where you can meet up with friends to enjoy your discontent over soups and salads.

  3. Richard Rohr says “the ego knows itself by comparison.” We all do it, and it doesn’t do any of us any good… But if you are ever wondering what is essentially you, apart from your ego? Start comparing yourself with others. It’s a surefire way to get in touch with your ego;)
